ATS
A straight wager made against the Point Spread or favoured player or team.

bet ID
Number used to identify an individual wager on an event.

bet limit
Maximum wager accepted.

bettor
A person who wagers on an event.

B.R.
A sports bettor's bankroll (B.R.) is the total amount of money a bettor has available to wager. A sports bettor's B.R. includes all available V-chips in the sports bettor's account.

buck
Equivalent of $100.00 V-chips.

chalk
The favoured team or player in the event.

churn
Wagering on an event with winnings from a previous event.

circle game
Game where action is limited due to weather, injuries or where other information is unavailable at the time of the wager.

cover
A wager that has won by a score higher than the Point Spread.

deadheat
A tie between two or more players or teams.

dime
Equivalent of $1000.00 V-chips.

dollar
Equivalent of $100.00 V-chips.

edge
The team with the advantage in an event.

event
A contest between two or more players or teams.

event ID
Number used to identify a specific contest for wagering purposes.

Wagering large sums of money.

form
What performance is to be expected according to how a team looks on paper.

To make a wager.

grading
Process of finalising the score of an event.

handicapper
A professional sports authority who studies teams and predicts the outcome of events.

hedge
To wager on the opposite of your original wager in order to reduce the amount of action you have on a game.

home field advantage
The edge the home team may have as a result of familiarity with the playing area, favourable demographics and effect of travel on the visiting team.

hook
Half point in Point Spreads, as in "lost by the hook."

hoops
Slang for basketball.

hot tip
Information that has not yet been factored into the posted odds or Point Spread of an event. This may give the bettor an edge on the house.

House commission, most often refers to the 11:10 odds football bettors lay on straight wagers. Also known as vigorish.

To wager on the favorite.

Lay the points
To wager on the favorite.

limit
Maximum wager accepted.

line
The set of rules used to calculate results and payout of straight wagers. Could also refer to a specific event and the line collectively.

longshot
The longshot is a team or player that is not expected to win and has high odds placed upon them. The payout on winning a wager on the longshot is usually high.

middle
Two wagers placed on both sides of an event at different lines that are successful when the final result is between the two lines.

neutral site
Event location where neither side has a home field advantage.

nickel
Equivalent of 500.00 V-chips.

No Action
Wager is returned to the bettor.

off the board
Event where no wagers are being accepted by the sportsbook.

overlay
When the odds are in favour of the bettor rather than the house.

Parlay
A wager with two or more teams where all the teams must win for the bettor to be successful.

payout
To make payment to bettors who have successfully won their wagers.

payout price
The expected payout on a successful wager.

Progressive Parlay
A wager with two or more teams where only a portion of the teams wagered must win for the bettor to be successful.

past post
Wager made after the event has started.

pick or pick'em
An event where neither player or team is favoured.

player
A person who participates in a game or sport. See also, bettor.

press
To wager a larger amount than usual.

price
The odds or Point Spread.

puppy
The underdog in an event.

push
A tie game result.

round robin
A series of Parlays. A 3 team round robin consists of one 3 team Parlay and three 2 team Parlays.

rundown
An update to a line or price.

To win a large wager.

scratch
A player or team that will not play in an event.

sharp
An established and successful sports bettor.

side
Two wagers placed at different lines where one is successful and the other ties.

sport type
A specific sport or a group of categorize events.

stake
The amount wagered.

stakes
The amount available to be won.

steam
A large amount of wagers placed on one side of an event.

straight bet
A wager on just one team.

A wager on the underdog where the Point Spread is high enough that the bettor believes the team or player will be successful.

tie
Event that results in neither team winning or losing the event.

toss up
An event where either team could win given the Point Spread.

tout service
A business that sells opinions on sporting events.

triple sharp
An established and successful sports bettor who has a reputation as one of the best.
